This semester the TMT Youth Community Foundation enrolled more students than ever before. Covid-19 had influenced the way business was conducted. This contagious and deadly disease help to shape new operating standards for many businesses. Shaw University was not exempt from this sudden shift in business. The omicron variant of Covid-19 pushed America's workforce into a cyber seclusion forcing academia, corporations, and small businesses to figure out new workflows from the comforts of home. This new way of business created a huge opportunity for the TMT Youth Community Foundation and the Shaw students enrolled as TMT Mentees in our extended learning program.

This semester, nine students will operate as a film crew to create original programming for the TMT Youth Community Foundation.  On February 4th 2022 students received a TMT Workshop on Camera Shots and Angles. TMT Mentees received a virtual assignment to write about their personal goals and five year plan. On the campus of NC State, in the offices of Raleigh Founded students gain hands on experience on how to create content and tell a compelling story through the eyes of a camera.

TMT Mentee Internship Programs offers students the opportunity to combine academic studies with on-the-job training and experience while completing their education. The TMT Mentee Internship Program is a part-time, 20-week program where talented and motivated undergraduate students will get first-hand experience working for the TMT Youth Community Foundation. Interns will be exposed to the many facets of television production, teaching as a profession, and entrepreneurship. TMT Mentees that progress into our 40 week program, will have access to leaders in the community who share similar interests and serve as a thought partner throughout their job search process after graduation. TMT Mentees will also have exposure and networking opportunities with the multiple partner organizations affiliated with the TMT Youth Community Foundation and TooMuchTV Inc.

Hi my name is Akeythio Carson, I’m a Mass Communications major from Gastonia, N.C. I attend Shaw university here in Raleigh,N.C.  I bring a lot of energy along with me and it’s always contagious to the people around me. I hope to bring that same enthusiasm to this program and lighten up the work place. I’ve always been interested in video & audio production but I lean more toward video production because personally it feels more natural to learn about video production. My goal during this internship is to get as much hands on experience here as possible so I can have real life experience in the media work field.

Our community needs strong leaders who are not only passionate about making a difference-they have the skills to make it happen. TMT Mentees work in leadership and community engagement roles which benefit the community. TMT Mentees explore leadership theory, community organizing, and the role of civic life and identity, as well as gain practical experience in community engagement and leadership.
